Jela Micanovic

Order Processing, Export & Human Resources Manager

“I was supported by WEKA by a part-time work model, flexible working hours and additional days off when my children were ill and I had to stay at home. On the other hand, I worked for WEKA and sometimes increased my hours when there were capacity bottlenecks - it’s a give and take.”

She has been working in the area of personnel administration and recruitment for many years and is responsible for the area of apprenticeship training with a lot of commitment and passion. “My motto: Happy parents are good parents - find the role model that suits you. In order to balance family and career, you need:

  • the right partner to support this decision

  • the right employer to support you

  • flexibility and organizational skills

  • the right attitude, it’s not all perfect

  • a good private environment that you can ask for support

For me as a working mother, predictability and consistency are important. I’m not looking for big professional changes and always something new. In return, WEKA benefits from my loyalty and my many years of know-how.”

John has been working as International Sales Manager at WEKA AG since 2006. With a lot of passion and commitment, he looks after our worldwide agencies and customers in the field of level measurement technology.

“International is in my blood. My father was from the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino and my mother was English. They met in India and also lived in India for many years. My siblings were all born in India, only I was born in Switzerland. So I have an affinity for different mentalities and approach people openly. It is important to me to treat everyone with respect and never to be condescending.

I speak German, English and French, and also my technical background as an engineer help me in contact with my customers. Over the years at WEKA, I was even able to develop friendly relationships with many sales offices and customers - I don’t just see the business, but also the people behind it. It’s the small gestures that matter. In this way I learn a few colloquialisms in the respective national language and thus ensure a connection. It’s always a great pleasure for me when I’m back on the plane and can make new contacts around the world for WEKA AG.”

Nicola Magginetti

Head of Development & Engineering

"At WEKA I was given the opportunity and the confidence to take the leap into management at a young age. By organizing the management as a team, I have the opportunity at WEKA to learn from my management team colleagues and to develop further."

After completing his studies at WEKA AG, Nicola gained initial professional experience as a development engineer and during this time continued her education in the field of business administration. After five years he left WEKA AG to broaden his horizon of experience as a project manager and later as head of research and development. With the vacancy “Head of Design and Development and member of the management team”, WEKA AG was able to win Nicola back.

“I always have fond memories of the experiences, the team and the WEKA culture. The products, the markets and the internationality are also important, positive criteria for me, which speak for WEKA AG. And last but not least, the size of the company, the local roots and the family atmosphere also fit in well with my ideas.

The high level of vertical integration, the complexity and the interfaces within WEKA are challenges, but they also make my position attractive. Because my work often requires clarifications, I appreciate the short distances and the uncomplicated handling.

A high level of responsibility and pressure are also part of my position. In addition to my job, I am the father of two small children. Balancing family and career is difficult. I experience a lot of understanding and freedom so that I can organize myself as well as possible. But it is and remains a challenge.”

Nadine started her career at WEKA with an apprenticeship as a polymechanic, then moved into the commercial sector and worked her way up through various positions from dispatching to sales to her current position as Technical Sales Coordinator with a 60% workload.

"After the birth of my daughters, I was offered a tailor-made solution each time – once even a specially created 20% position in PM support. This flexibility and trust motivate me enormously. Today, I can organize my home office hours individually and adapt my working day to the needs of my family.

I find training new employees particularly rewarding. It is important to me to pass on my enthusiasm for our work and to convey to others that you really feel connected to the company at WEKA. The strong sense of community and events such as the WEKA Rally further strengthen team spirit. After all these years, I am grateful for the continuous development opportunities and look to the future with motivation."

Salvatore Tribastone

Polymechanic

"In addition to my interesting and varied work, my colleagues and the informal and uncomplicated cooperation have kept me at WEKA AG for over 30 years."

Salvatore came to WEKA AG as a young mechanic and has now been working in mechanical production for over 30 years. He is a “thoroughbred mechanic”, “an old WEKA hand” and a guarantor for our continuity.

With great enthusiasm and success, he passes on his enormous manufacturing know-how, his decades of experience and his fascination for mechanical production to his young colleagues and our apprentice poly-mechanics.

“It was always important to me to be able to work with my hands. I couldn’t imagine a pure office job.

Due to the ongoing further development of our products, we are constantly being challenged anew in mechanical production. Sometimes the production of individual parts is urgent or a prototype for a further or new development is pending. I enjoy looking for new manufacturing solutions, making suggestions for improvement and using our machinery as efficiently as possible and bring a lot of variety to my everyday work. Cooperation and close exchange with my colleagues are also important to me.

For many years I have been passing on my knowledge and experience to our apprentice mechanics. It’s nice when the youngsters can benefit from my know-how. Over the many years, I could accompany a number of young people until they successfully completed their apprenticeship.”

Luiz Carlos Freimüller

Electronics Engineer

“The requirements of the advertised position at WEKA AG matched my many years of experience as a hardware and firmware developer almost perfectly. I knew many of the programs that WEKA uses from previous jobs. The varied tasks in the field of electronics, as well as working on the construction of test systems were fund and also interesting.”

Luiz was planning to return to Switzerland with his family from Brazil when he applied to our electronic engineer job posting.

“When I received the contract documents, the hands-on quality of the management was noticeable. A lot is documented and set down in writing, which impressed me.

When we arrived in Switzerland, we quickly found an apartment. This was important for me and my family and helped us a lot. When we used to live in Switzerland, my wife and I traveled a lot and were busy with education and work. Since our return to Switzerland, now as a family with two children, we enjoy more time together at home and, thanks to the children, have more contact with the neighborhood, which we enjoy a lot.

My wife and I both speak German, which makes contact easier for us. Our two children had to learn German. It is particularly challenging that in Switzerland they had to learn not only Standard German but also the Swiss dialect. It is interesting to observe how their language skills develop. While the 8-year-old son tends to speak more Swiss German because he has more contact with younger children, the 16-year-old daughter, who is preparing for her professional life, uses standard German more.

We are very happy to live here again and that our children will also get to know Swiss culture.”

Tomasz Holubowicz

Welder

"With my supervisor I was able to find an arrangement that allows me to go to Poland for a week once a month and thus keep in touch with my friends and family. I really appreciate the flexibility of my employer and the willingness to accommodate my need, which is extremely important to me."

Tomasz started a temporary job as a welder at WEKA AG in 2017 and commuted between Poland and Switzerland during this period. At the beginning of 2018 we were able to offer Tomasz a permanent position and win him over as a proven specialist and valuable colleague for our team and WEKA AG. When he started at WEKA AG, he relocated from Poland to Switzerland.

“I appreciate the interesting and challenging projects with a lot of variety at WEKA AG. During the years in the company I was able to develop further, learned a lot of new things and benefit from my competent teammates.

I enjoy welding and I enjoy my work. In addition to the technical aspects, the company culture is also important to me. The atmosphere and the cooperation in the team and in the company in general suit me well and are very good. I receive the support I need and can address problems and concerns at any time.

My wife and I plan to build our future with our children in Switzerland. Speaking the language is crucial for integration and new contacts and friends. I have been able to improve my German over the last few years. It was difficult for my wife to socialize when our children were very young. Now there are new possibilities and opportunities for them too.”

Smiljana und Dražen Bozic

Employee Electronics; WEKA Chef & Warehouse Worker

"We were able to organize our working hours so that we could take turns looking after the children so that someone was always at home. That was enormously valuable for us as a family, even if it was a very stressful time. Working together in the same company simplifies the organization for us, otherwise we have few points of contact because we work in different departments."

Smiljana came to WEKA AG in 2001 and has gained extensive experience in electronics production and a lot of product know-how over the years. In 2008 her husband Dražen came to WEKA as a part-time cook and since then he has treated our employees to freshly cooked lunch menus every day. In 2014, Dražen was able to supplement his make up his hours to a full-time job with another part-time job as a warehouse worker.

Smiljana:
“When I started at WEKA AG, I could hardly speak German and had absolutely no idea about electronics. The start was correspondingly tough and I had to battle my way through at the beginning. The fact that my colleagues spoke both standard German and Swiss dialect didn’t make finding my feet any easier. I received a lot of support from my manager and my colleagues. With a lot of patience and perseverance, they explained a lot to me, both linguistically and technically, or corrected me, and so things progressed step by step.

Today I enjoy my work in electronics and I am happy when I understand the processes and the interrelationships better and better. The organization or the clarification of orders is also exciting and makes my day-to-day work varied.”

Dražen:
“I started part-time as a cook in the canteen of WEKA AG. As a trained chef, I really enjoy treating my colleagues to freshly cooked meals. I can plan the menus myself and also have a lot of freedom in organizing my tasks. After a few years, I had the opportunity to make up my job to a full-time post with a part-time job as a warehouse worker. I was able to learn a lot of new things in the stores. The tasks are interesting and I appreciate the good cooperation with my teammates.”
